Fiona Wilson is a podiatrist, practising in Manchester, UK, with more than 10 years experience in the manufacture and fitting of orthotics (custom shoe inserts or insoles). Many problems may be treated this way, including pain in the following - Toe, Ball of the Foot, Arch, Heel, Ankle, Shin, Knee, Hips and Back. As the skeleton is interlinked it is possible to experience pain, either where the problem starts, or remotely in another part of the body.
The feet are the foundation of the body. If the foundations of a house are unstable, then cracks begin to appear elsewhere.
When the feet roll out of their ideal ‘neutral’ position they cannot work properly. This leads to malalignment which transfers strain to other joints.

Company description
Orthotics are shoe inserts which are individually designed to balance your body, alter the way you walk and make your joints work more efficiently. When your body is out of balance, many joints can't work in the best way and this leads to pain. What happens at my first appointment? Mrs Wilson first asks you some questions, then performs a full biomechanical diagnostic examination. She explains her findings as she goes along. There is no charge for this first appointment. When Mrs Wilson has made her preliminary assessment, she lets you know whether she can help you. Advice costs nothing at this stage.
If necessary she books a further appointment. What happens at the second appointment? Mrs Wilson designs and fits a temporary pair of orthotics for you to test. This can take about an hour and a half and involves going out for a walk or run in them before the order is placed. You need to be certain that they are helping before you commit yourself! Don't forget to ask about insurance to refund up to 75% of the total costs. What happens at the fitting appointment? When your own pair of orthotics arrives, Mrs Wilson will contact you to make a fitting appointment. She will make sure that the orthotics fit both your feet and your shoes.
She will then perform a dynamic footscan which provides additional information on your gait from foot pressures and timings which are invisible even to a trained eye. This allows us to check the orthotics are doing their job before you take them home. A posture change is usual and with your permission Mrs Wilson may ask to photograph this for research purposes. Why scan and fit, rather than cast? Imagine choosing a pair of shoes and buying them without trying them on! Tell me about this lifetime guarantee. Most orthotics are only guaranteed for a year. Because the flexible carbon shells of Scanyourfeet orthotics are so strong, the manufacturer guarantees them for life against breakage and loss of shape.
